How do you know if you’re operating in the Holy Spirit? Or are you telling yourself that you’re feeling a certain way? I’ve been in Romania for almost a week and it took me several days to understand that God has been using my Spiritual Gifts daily. Even when I’ve complained about being tired, not sleeping well, or just not wanting to do anything. God has continued to remind me that when I operate in my Spiritual Gifts, I won’t be complacent about it. He will give me rest. He will give me what I need to continue to do what he has called me to do.
The Bible talks about Spiritual Gifts in 1 Corinthians 12:1 “Now about Spiritual Gifts[the special endowments given by the Holy Spirit], brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed….12:4-6 “Now there are [distinctive] varieties of Spiritual Gifts [special abilities given by the grace and extraordinary power of the Holy Spirit operating in believers], but it is the same Spirit[who grants them and empowers believers]. And there are[distinctive] varieties of ministries and service, but it is the same Lord[who is served]. And there are[distinctive] ways of working[to accomplish things], but it is the same God who produces all things in all believers[inspiring, energizing, and empowering them].
Something that has to be learned about spiritual is not everyone is going to operate in the same gifting nor operate in them as much or little as other people. I’ve been guilty of asking “Why not me”, “Why not now”, Why am I not hearing from the Holy Spirit right now?” We CAN’T fall into that feeling of not being able or adequate in that moment. That is satan trying to get you off track with what God has in store for you.
So….God has been using my ability with musical instruments, serving others, prayer, and revelation of the word of God. I’ve been able to let God take over everything. And here is a story about a conversation I had with one of my squamates and how the Holy Spirit took over……
We were talking about David vs Goliath and I asked “What did David take with him to fight Goliath?” And he replied “A sling and 5 stones.” I followed that with a revelation of the word God gave me…. I asked him “What is our sling in todays world? What is our facilitator?” I grabbed a bible. Our bible is the facilitator. It is the something that we can look too and know it is going to be there for us to use at any moment. Then I asked ” What are our stones?” It is our words…Our words are out stones that we can throw at our Goliaths(giants/circumstances) and know that it can strike down whatever is in our way. God has equipped us with everything we need to strike down satan.
We need to start realizing that we have the authority to strike down satan. God gave us the authority to do so. And in that, when we know we have the authority to strike down satan, we are stepping deeper with God and allowing him to use those Spiritual Gifts. You can’t ask “Take me Deeper?”, help me walk on water, and deepen me faith and be on the beach. You have to “Get off the beach to Preach.” Let God guide everything. There is so much freedom in knowing God has control.
